16th November - EMERALD BEACH

The Re-Inspiration of Terry James

I tend to crave moments like this,
While the blood rushes to my head,
I begin to remember what it was like,
To pedal the cogs of my brain instead.

Now every page takes me back,
To what I used to love,
A love lost to the moon, the sun and wind,
To the kites that soared above.

I glance to my right and see Linda’s face,
She knows what she’s doing to me,
The re-inspiration of scale and space,
All natures secrets that come for free.

From ancient Chinese troglodytes,
To the buildings of modern day France,
Human nature knew a long time ago,
Man and shelter was a delicate dance.

Now my legs are resting,
The blood rises north defying gravity,
I look to the pages of re-inspiration,
And smirk at our Mc Mansion insanity.

Why do we design buildings,
Without a clue to where the sun will rise?
We wonder why our shelter is uncomfortable,
But we marvel at its size.

Bamboo is a like a piece of steel,
Only it came from the ground.
It shot skyward in the shortest time,
And there’s plenty of it around.

Think about how you build your shelter,
And you will surely find,
To hang your hat under a bamboo roof,
Is beauty redefined.

As the blood rushes south,
Pistons propel me up the hill,
The head wind doesn’t bother me,
I’m inspired against my will.

For all the books and lessons learnt,
With the suns rise and fall.
To walk amongst the bamboo again,
Will be the greatest lesson of all.

A big Thankyou to Linda and Peter for welcoming us into their home and showing us around the property. And to my extended family Harry and MJ, in Emerald Beach for saving us drowned rats with warm water and good food.

Quote of the Day
Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind.” – Bruce Lee
