10th November - BYRON BAY

The Senior Team

Spent the day with the MyPOWER team and two mates (Bones & Frenchy) riding from Currumbin Qld. to Byron Bay in northern N.S.W.
The boys dubbed us the MyPOWER Senior team and gave us some spare shirts to wear. They were a bit body hugging to say the least.

We left Currumbin and rode straight into a 30 knot gale that lasted for the whole 95 km’s. It’s amazing how enthusiastic they are after over 16000kms of cycling.
Our first stop was Tweed Heads and as soon as we stopped this elderly lady who used to live in Germany told us about her life as a young girl, and how everything was used or recycled and that there was very little wastage. Some homes didn’t even have a garbage bin they were so efficient. She praised the boys for making people aware of the environmental problems of Planet Earth and particularly our own country.

Our next stop was Kingscliff where we changed bikes. The difference was quite dramatic as our bikes only weigh 8kg and the MyPOWER bikes were about 12kg plus a trailer which had up to 20kg of gear. Anyhow, for 45kms the Senior team slogged it out until we asked for our bikes back.

As we reached Byron Bay the sun started to shine for the first time which put a smile on our faces and made the pain in our legs bearable.
Good luck boys with the rest of the trip and thanks for letting us tag along for a day in your year long quest to bring the Environment to the forefront of the nation’s problems.

Cheers
Ronny.

Quote of the Day
"That was either the longest 5km of my life, or this trailer is getting heavier" - Mark Moroney, after lugging his nephew Tom's trailer full of gear up a giant hill in the Brunswick Valley.
