I could write a whole entry about how good my legs feel, but instead I will say that Tom and I got a sports massage in Byron and I am feeling particularly flexible. For our hard core readers, you will understand the full importance of my receiving a successful deep tissue massage. Yes, it has been seven months of trial and error in the massage parlour, error in particular.
Something else has changed on tour – there is a sixth member of the POWER that I am proud to introduce. Meet Pedals, MyPOWER’s second mascot and younger sister of Helmut. Her story begins on the Savannah Way in the North......
Avocado is the superfood of the tour, responsible for our longest day of cycling, delicious mixed with Marmite in a sandwich, a long lasting substitute for butter. But did you know they are easy to grow? What if I told you I secretly jammed an Avocado seed in Helmut’s pot several months ago instead of throwing it in the bin, and now it is already 10cm tall. If I told you we have nurtured a fig tree in the front seat of the Prius since Darwin, and grown an avocado sapling from lunch scraps in the same pot, would that be enough to convince you that Action #1 “Plant a native or food tree” is easily achievable? Go on then!
Leaving Byron is never easy. In fact it amazes me that despite our need to leave each destination after only one or two days, we still find leaving difficult. It only takes us hours to feel at home in a small backpacker dorm and find a family to dine with, and likewise it takes us hours to leave it all behind. Today was no different as the tour lazily departed at 4pm. We are in familiar territory, we feel like we are home, why are we still travelling? We’ve been riding for 11 months and we’re still riding. We’re still riding. Still riding!
Quote of the Day
“Travelling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things - air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky - all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.” -
Cesare Pavese
