I just thought it was about time I let you guys know how proud I am of you all. Not just that you've made it (I've never doubted that), and not just that you said you'd do it, but that you did it. You've dared to dream, dreamed to inspire, and inspired change.
Yes it’s one thing to say you're inspired, it’s another to act because you've being inspired. But through the year we've seen people write to you telling you of the changes they've made to live more sustainably, I go out with my friend to hear her chatter proudly of her vege patch and share pictures of her broccoli on her phone like one would her baby. I hear the kid at the back of a school class yell "that's so cool, I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it" when given a seedling tree to plant. I walk along the Cronulla promenade and find some native berries that we have in our garden. It’s not only that now I know I can eat them, but that now, I notice them. However, I'd never heard one say they were inspired to ride their bike around Australia... until last week...
when my friend confessed to me it was his dream to ride around Australia, "or at least to Cairns".
Anthony once said he'd lost the cool, but I can tell you, to some, you are the epitome of cool. From the ghoulling hot days, to the relentless winds. From the Nullarbour to the tablelands. From the lows to the highs. From the grey nomads to the city chicks...
I've learnt that roads have shoulders too, I've learnt you don't know about tail winds until you don't have one, I've learnt about differences of points, or points of difference, I've learnt that cycling is hard work, but push-ups are harder, I've learnt that a four man stacker is possible, bicycle bungy jumping is possible, 45km on a bike is possible (for me), 18000km on a bike is possible (for some), change is possible, heck. . Anything is possible.
I've learnt that green is the new black but green is not just a colour. It’s an attitude. It’s a way of life. It’s a smart way of life. I've learnt that this could change the world, boys.
